My name is Jason McCullough. I have drawn and painted since I can remember. I consider being able to think about, create and share the creative endeavor for so long a gift. I am forever grateful to have lived a life of observation and interpretation. This website contains landscape and portrait work that started with a return to imagery based ideas I acted on in 2017. Before this I worked on generally larger scale, more abstract pieces. This new effort has brought an increasing focus on the intrinsic connection we have to landscape. We are forever connected to land. It is where we come from, go back to in the end, and is a universal reference point for individual and collective point of view. We experience existence, for the most part, from just above the land. It is what we belong to. The land we exist in, create names and stories around and live out our short live on will be here, in one form or another, long after we are individually and generally gone. Painting landscapes, and occasionally the people that inhabit them, is a way for me to examine the experience of being human upon this small chunk of expelled star matter; as we all continue to develop the miracle of self awareness and in doing so, first notice and then question our place in all we perceive. In my work I am recording a place and moment in a long, slow moving timeline. All these places, small and vast, are part of the lexicon of human perception, whether noticed or not, they exist, they existed, and the places they reference reside, from our point of view, almost forever. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do, sometimes.
if you would like one, please let me know.
Thank you.
